Today was our first day in Ecuador. Our plane landed at 10:22 in Quito last night. Our schedule was drive up friday evening to Portland, then we stayed at a hotel. the next morning by 4:50 we were at the airport. the flight was to Atlanta, Georgia. The flight was really nice it was a huge fancy plane, the ones with the little TV screens that you can pay to watch things on. after we arrived at the airport in Atlanta we had a four hour layover so we decided to wander. They had tons of education stuff about Martin Luther King Jr. , since he was born right in Atlanta, Georgia. The flight to Quito wasn't so nice there weren't TV screens and almost no leg room (at least in my opinion). Halfway through the little Tvs on the ceiling above the aisle starter to play the new Cinderella so I was slightly less angry at the air line (because in the big planes with the personal Tvs you get free any movie because you're going out of the country). We finaly arived in Quito at 10:22 but the we had to go though customs and emmigration. Fun!(that was sarcasam for those who don't realize how much of a freaking pain in the but that is) then it was another hour to 45min to get to Angie's house (that the woman who was nice enough to let us invade her house). Angie is supper cool her husband scott works at the American consulate. So she lives in an apartment buildings with diplomats from all over the Israelin diplomat lives across the street and the little gated community is filled wth diplomats. Any back to the story. So we got to sleep around 12 or so. Then this morning I woke up at 7:30 and read a book untill other people woke up. after we had a breakfast the was sausage, eggs, fried squashed plantains and something intersting with shrip (I realy have no Idea what it was). We set off to go a basketball game (We being Angie, My mom, Angie's son connor, Myles and me). We were going to this game beacuse Angie and her friends had payed to get the team matching uiforms. the uniforms were a briliant green and on the uniforms the team had made sure that the words "Not your average american" were on the front because thats the name of Angie's blog. you should google there are tons of awesome pics on there. near where the girls, because its an all girls team, was some soccor matched being played in a dirt feild and some guys playing ecuaball. ecuaball it like volleyball exept with more confusing rules and it's played with a soccerball and a net a foot or two higher than american volleyball. After watching the girls play a game one of the players insisted on taking us out to lunch. lunch was BBQ chicken with the side of potatoes, rice and/or ecuadorian corn which is kind of tasteless but is pretty good with some salt. Connor (Angie's son) warrned us that alot of ecuadorian food is bland and you just add condoments to it when it arrives at the table. then, since Myles forgot his rain coat we whent on an epic hunt to sports stores and such looking for a cheep one. We got side tracked and bought some ice cream it was really good and it was $2 for a double scoop(they only sold a double scoop not that I'm complaining) and apparently it's typical cheaper than that. dang I might gain like ten pounds in just straight ice cream weight. Anyways we headed back to Angie's house and crashed for the day since we're all pretty tiered. It was a good day I ate food and didn't throw up from altitude sickness although I have dizzy spells and headaches.
~Zoe,
Out! (^_~)
Is the rain coat working out? Its inspiring to see how you guys get to travel and learn as a family. Interesting that the philosophy of food seems to be to let you add the flavor at the table? Love reading about it all.
